MAGISNAT MEETING – November, 21st 2022

"The importance of garlic and Mediterranean legumes in a healthy and balanced lifestyle"

Meetings continue between MAGISNAT and Fondazione Policlinico Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, Rome, Italy, regarding important foods in the Mediterranean diet.

In particular, this week there was a focus on Mediterranean legumes and garlic.

Being composed of polyphenols and flavonoids, garlic has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, cardioprotective, anticancer, antidiabetic, anti-obesity, antihypertensive, antibiotic, and antioxidant properties.

Instead, Mediterranean legumes have numerous health benefits: for example, they reduce the risk of suffering from hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and dyslipidemia.
In addition, legumes reduce oxidative stress and promote gut microbial diversity and colon health.

Two basic foods that must be present in our diet.
