MAGISNAT deems that scientific development, continuous research, and innovation are very important concepts that must always be valued and reinforced.

This is why MAGISNAT, with its professional and competent staff, composed of professors and researchers from different parts of the world, has decided to meet on a weekly basis to discuss various relevant issues.

The focus is mainly on scientific research, patenting innovative inventions that will bring wellbeing to society and relevance to science and research, with the aim of producing and marketing them exclusively, developing the commercial side of natural molecules, and communicating and promoting projects about the Mediterranean diet.

These weekly meetings are divided into two parts. The first is about discussing corporate and business issues; whereas the second is focused on the interest in media and communication. For example, the publication of some scientific articles for the scientific community with the purpose of providing useful and interesting information about the Mediterranean diet, or the promotion of various projects and meetings.

In order to disseminate information about this healthy and tasty dietary pattern, several contacts were activated with magazines, blogs and newspapers with the aim of publishing some of this information, based on their interest.

Below are listed the names of some of the magazines, blogs, and newspapers on which the first news about MAGISNAT’s diverse activities has been published.

MAGISNAT MEETING – January 2nd, 2023

"The importance of adopting a Mediterranean lifestyle to approach pregnancy with serenity and safety"

MAGISNAT’s scientific committee met today to discuss a topical and very important issue: the role of diet during pregnancy. Thanks to numerous studies and research, it has been shown, precisely, that diet and other lifestyle factors before and during pregnancy influence the health of the mother and baby. In fact, nutrition is considered one of the most critical environmental elements that influence embryonic and fetal development and maternal health. During pregnancy, nutrient requirements increase to support fetal growth and development and to maintain maternal metabolism. In addition, it has been shown that inadequate intake of important macronutrients and micronutrients can adversely affect pregnancy outcomes and neonatal health. Therefore, at this meeting, the MAGISNAT scientific committee wanted to dwell on the topic of the importance of complete and proper nutrition as a preventive action to increase fertility and subsequently as a beneficial action for development, fetal growth, and maternal health.

MAGISNAT MEETING – January 9th, 2023

"Effects of the Mediterranean diet on the components of metabolic syndrome"

Meetings continue between MAGISNAT, an innovative Italian-American spin-off, and the committee of the Fondazione Policlinico Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, Rome, Italy. This week they discussed the effects of the Mediterranean diet on the components of metabolic syndrome. Unfortunately, in recent times we are seeing an increase of this disease among people. It has been realized that adopting a Mediterranean lifestyle, that is, a balanced diet, moderate physical activity and positive social relationships, can help prevent the onset of this syndrome. It was a very lively discussion that ended with the desire to spread more and more knowledge about the Mediterranean lifestyle and the use of dietary supplements to make up for any deficiencies in our organism.

MAGISNAT MEETING – February 13th, 2023

"The Mediterranean diet as a determinant of our eye health"

This meeting MAGISNAT and the committee of the Fondazione Policlinico Agostino Gemelli IRCCS (Rome, Italy) discussed the importance of adopting the Mediterranean diet to prevent eye diseases. It emerged from this meeting that diet, being a key lifestyle factor, can also exert long-term effects on ocular health and play a key role in preventing visual dysfunction, which can lead to permanent visual impairment or blindness. Specifically, the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) has been in the limelight since the 1980s for the many health benefits it offers, including eye health. This, being characterized by the consumption of small amounts of red meat, intake of fish, eggs, nuts, legumes, citrus fruits, green vegetables, olives and their derivatives, particularly olive oil, and dairy products in a proportionate manner, helps to achieve maximum health benefits. In summary, the Mediterranean diet would seem to be the best solution for leading a healthy life and preventing the possible occurrence of certain eye-related diseases.

MAGISNAT MEETING – February 20th, 2023

"MAGISNAT and natural molecules: their importance from prehistory to the present day"

It’s a time of change at MAGISNAT, the innovative spin-off based at Atlanta Tech Park in Peachtree Corners, Atlanta, GA. New projects feature natural products and, more specifically, natural molecules. Natural products have been talked about since prehistoric times, and over time their use has evolved and become increasingly popular. With the arrival of the industrialization period, this evolution reached its climax. In this period, we must remember the figure of Achille Bertelli, who, thanks to his foresight and intelligence, managed to build his own pharmaceutical industry based on natural molecules. But an in-depth study of this figure will be made later.

MAGISNAT MEETING – March 6th, 2023

"MAGISNAT, a cutting-edge spin-off that is working to bring wellbeing to the world's entire population"

This meeting went deeper into what MAGISNAT wants to accomplish for people’s wellbeing. Besides, following the innovative Dr. Achille Bertelli for the natural molecules part, MAGISNAT professors and researchers are pursuing an even broader project, the overall well-being of people. It all starts from the Mediterranean diet. The Mediterranean diet is the best known and most studied dietary pattern worldwide. It differs from other diets because it involves the consumption of a wide variety of foods, such as extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), legumes, cereals, nuts, fruits, vegetables, fish and little meat, dairy products and wine in really limited quantities. Intake of all these foods is essential because these provide various phytonutrients, including polyphenols and vitamins that play an essential role in the human body. In conclusion, achieving this goal is very complex but not impossible, and MAGISNAT is achieving very good results.

MAGISNAT MEETING – March 13th, 2023

"MAGISNAT: Teaching children the Mediterranean lifestyle is fundamental to the future wellbeing of the population"

MAGISNAT in this Monday meeting wanted to focus its attention on a very important topic. For its professors and researchers, it is essential to start from when people are only small to educate them about a Mediterranean lifestyle. Numerous studies have shown the validity of this thinking. Indeed, it has been seen that if the mother during pregnancy adopts a Mediterranean diet, the future child will already be born with a reduced percentage of chance of contracting some particular diseases. Therefore, a very attractive future prospect but at the same time difficult to realize. Society in our days tends to favor unhealthy and high-fat ready-made meals and snacks that do not facilitate the adoption of a healthy and balanced eating style. All this, however, does not frighten MAGISNAT, which has its goal very clear: to bring wellbeing to the population, and to do this in the best possible way, it is good to start with children.

MAGISNAT MEETING – March 20th, 2023

"The importance of the Mediterranean diet in preventing the onset of eye diseases"

At this meeting MAGISNAT emphasized the importance of the Mediterranean diet in preventing certain diseases such as those related to the visual system. Unfortunately, we are witnessing a significant increase in eye diseases due to a polluted environment, unregulated lifestyles and a hectic lifestyle that does not allow for proper nutrition. It has been shown by Italian and American MAGISNAT professors and researchers that certain natural molecules found in particular foods of the Mediterranean diet have a preventive action toward the onset of some eye diseases. In fact, it is recommended that we eat little red meat, fish, cereals, green vegetables, dairy products and olive oil, in short, adopt a Mediterranean-type diet, and if it is difficult, proper supplementation for the health of our eyes.

MAGISNAT MEETING – March 27th, 2023

"The role of the Mediterranean diet in gut health"

This Monday meeting among MAGISNAT’s researchers focused on the possible use of certain natural molecules in fighting the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a condition that is closely linked to one’s diet. Diet plays a pivotal role in protecting the gut microbiota, which is the population of “good” bacteria that live inside the human gut. An alteration of the gut microbiota composition, also called “dysbiosis” (for example in the case of an unbalanced diet), might cause an intestinal inflammation, often leading to various chronic diseases, collectively known as “inflammatory bowel disease” (IBD). The major symptoms of this condition are abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss, and it is usually associated with deficiencies of both macro and micronutrients. Unluckily, the body often develops resistance against the already available drugs, with a remission rate that is below 50%. In order to better the patients’ quality of life, it is thus important to act on their diet. The Mediterranean diet, renowned for its anti-inflammatory effects (also due to its extensive use of extra virgin olive oil), is a very important ally in preventing dysbiosis. Also, in order to improve the management and treatment of intestinal inflammatory diseases, it would be a good practice to integrate the patient’s diet with dietary supplements containing natural molecules with anti-inflammatory effects (like probiotics, lactoferrin, palmitoylethanolamide, and omega 3), which help preventing or soothing IBD symptoms.

MAGISNAT MEETING – April 24th, 2023

"The properties of citrus fruits flavonoids, useful natural molecules"

Among the fruits and vegetables that make up the Mediterranean diet, a very famous family is that of the citrus fruits (such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruits). They contain many useful natural molecules, among which are the flavonoids. Flavonoids are class of natural molecules that is abundantly present in the plant kingdom, and in which citrus fruits are particularly rich. Research has shown that they are potentially beneficial to human health, having antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They have also been linked to a reduced risk of chronic diseases, like cardiovascular disease and cancer. Among these, an interesting molecule is hesperidin, a common citrus fruit flavonoid (primarily found in the peel and white pulp, particularly of oranges and grapefruits) that is known to have antioxidant properties and can have potential benefits for cardiovascular health.

MAGISNAT MEETING – May 1st, 2023

"The relation between hair loss, genetics and the Mediterranean diet"

Hair loss impacts self-esteem and quality of life, with causes including genetics and environmental factors. MAGISNAT researchers have identified genetic variations in the androgen receptor gene (AR) as contributors to androgenetic alopecia, affecting up to 80% of men and 50% of women. Nutritional deficiencies also play a role, such as iron deficiency impairing oxygen transport to hair follicles and vitamin D deficiency affecting hair follicle cycling. Zinc deficiency and biotin deficiency can lead to hair loss and weakened hair structure. The Mediterranean diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats, addresses these deficiencies. Antioxidants protect hair follicles, omega-3 fatty acids improve hair thickness, and biotin supports keratin production. Iron-rich foods sustain healthy hair growth. The Mediterranean diet is an ideal dietary pattern to promote overall health and hair health by preventing hair loss and fostering healthy hair growth through its nutrient-rich composition.

This fat-soluble vitamin naturally occurs in various forms and is crucial for key processes like vision, gene transcription, immune support, and skin health. The active form, retinoic acid, directly influences gene expression, driving the physiological effects that keep you healthy. The body expertly manages vitamin A levels, storing it in the liver and regulating it in the bloodstream to ensure everything runs smoothly. However, balance is key—both too much and too little can disrupt these vital systems.
